The noise generated by an aircraft propeller is reduced if the rotational speed of the propeller is reduced. Many aircraft engines incorporate a speed reduction gear to achieve this result. For those engines which do not incorporate a speed reduction gear, there is a speed reduction gear (1) which is incorporated in the propeller hub. The speed reduction gear consists of a shaft with an attached flange which can be bolted to the engine flywheel. This shaft carries a pinion which meshes with an internally toothed gear which forms part of the propeller hub.
