PURPOSE:To enable accurate focus detection for photographic lenses which have various exit pupil positions by selecting the outputs of one of couples of photoelectric converting elements according to pupil position information regarding the exit pupil position of a photographic lens and position information on the distance of a base line from the optical axis. CONSTITUTION:Pieces of luminous flux passed through couples of image re- forming lenses La and Lb, Lc and Ld, and Le and Lf are made incident on couples of photoelectric converting element arrays Sa and Sb, Sc and Sd, and Se and Sf, which output focus detection signals respectively. A selecting means CU selects the outputs of one of the couples of photoelectric converting element arrays according to the pupil position information on the exit pupil position of the photographic lens 1 and the position information regarding the distance of the base line from the optical axis. Then an arithmetic means AFC detects the quantity of relative deviation between images of a couple of luminous flux with the selected couple of focus detection signals to calculate a defocusing quantity. Consequently, focus detection in an area distant from the photographic lens optical axis at right angles to the image deviation detection direction is performed without any eclipse. |
