In a piezo-electric igniter of the kind in which a striker 12 is withdrawn against a spring 11 by a manipulator and then impelled forward to strike the element 4, the manipulator comprises a rotatable knob 16 attached to the striker and guided by a follower 18 along sawtooth surfaces 20 on the end of a casing 10. As shown the knob 16 has axial extensions 16<SP>11</SP> which are attached to a rotatable retaining disc 14 for the spring 11 and striker 12, the extensions having a gap between them for receiving the follower 18 which is in the form of a pin passing through a shank 12<SP>1</SP> on the striker. Thus, rotation of the knob drives the follower 18 up the inclined parts 21 of the sawtooth surfaces, at the same time withdrawing the striker, until the follower drops into the slots of the sawteeth and allows the striker to engage the element.</p> |
