1,117,527. Corrugating thermoplastic sheet material; laminates. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 July, 1966 [6 Aug., 1965], No. 33736/65. Headings B5A and B5N. A longitudinally corrugated sheet is given additional transverse corrugations or undulations by passing the sheet between two stations which are reciprocated relative to each other. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, a longitudinally corrugated sheet 1, from a fixed extruder 2, is passed between laterally reciprocating clamping members 9, located in a cooling bath 3, the resultant longitudinally corrugated and undulating sheet being drawn out of the bath over rollers 4. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, an extruded sheet is wound from roll 1, heated at 12, longitudinally corrugated between rolls 13, laterally corrugated by a vertically reciprocating bar 15 and finally cooled by air blasts at 17. In a third embodiment, see Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), a longitudinally corrugated sheet is extruded from a transversely reciprocated die and flat cover sheets extruded on to it. The sheets can be made of polyethylene; polypropylene; poly-4-methylepentene-1; polyvinyl chloride; polymers and copolymers of styrene, e.g. styrene/maleic anhydride copolymers; polymethyl methacrylate; copolymers of methyl methacrylate with acrylic acid and alkyl acrylates; polyoxymethanes, polycarbonates; polyamides and polyesters. |
