PURPOSE: To read out small quantity of charge stored in a capacitor through a simple circuit by bringing a switching diode into a stronger conductive state when a potential jump is switched on. CONSTITUTION: The output current from a photodiode 2 charges a capacitor 3 and it is taken out when a switching diode 4 is energized. The charges stored in the capacitor 3 can be read out and the voltage across the switching diode 4 fluctuates when it is coupled with a potential jump, i.e., an additional or a variable voltage, through any one of signal lead 6 or read-out lead 5. When a DC voltage supply 12 is connected through a switch 13 with a joint 6, the diode 4 is conducted and the characteristics curve thereof is shown by A on the drawing. Since the diode 4 is conducted, the voltage across the diode 4 is decreased gradually by the flowing charges and cuts off the current gradually thus arriving at point B on the characteristics curve. Finally, the coupled voltage is switched off in order to end the read-out process.
