PURPOSE:To minimize the consumption of energy and reliably fix ink over the entire area of a recording material by detecting the time when the rear end portion of a recorded material passes through a fixing means and changing over the drive condition of the fixing means with the aid of a drive condition changing-over means so as to enhance a fixing effect. CONSTITUTION:While a recording material 7 is being fed by feed rollers 2 and delivery rollers 3, an image is recorded thereon with ink discharged from a recording head 1, and the recorded material reaches delivery rollers 4 while being supported on a recorded material support member 6. During this course, the recorded material on the support member is subjected to the application of hot air blown from a fixing unit 5 with a hot air fan, and ink on the recorded material is thereby dried to be fixed thereon. In this case, when a rear end portion detecting means 8 detects the rear end of the recorded material 7, a change-over signal is sent into a fixing unit drive condition changing-over device 9 to operate a fixing unit 5 under the drying and fixing unit drive condition preset so as to enhance the drying and fixing. Further, when the detection signal from the rear end portion detecting means 8 for the recorded material 7 is inputted into a CPU 101, a predetermined drive condition is read out of a fixing unit drive condition table 104, thereby controlling a fixing unit driver 105 to operate the fixing unit. |
