PURPOSE:To shorten a time required for the curing and/or drying of an applied body remarkably and carry out the efficient operation of a facility by a method wherein one part or the whole amount of water, added upon the kneading work of castable refractory, is replaced by volatile nonaqueous solvent. CONSTITUTION:One part or the whole amount of water, added upon the kneading work of castable refractory, is replaced by volatile nonaqueous solvent. After the applying work of the castable refractory, an applied body, capable of being used immediately, can be obtained. Methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, buthyl alcohol, xylene and the like, for example, can be used as the volatile nonaqueous solvent. When water-curable substance such as alumina cement, for example, is blended with the castable refractory as a curing agent, a predetermined fluidity can be secured by adding not only the volatile nonaqueous solvent but also comparatively small amount of water. On the other hand, the castable refractory, added with thermosetting substance such as resin or the like, can be cured by igniting the applied body. The refractory aggregate, made of fine powder of alumina, silica, magnesia, chromia, silicon carbide and the like, for example, can be used principally as castable refractory. |
