1338651 Rotary electro-plating apparatus USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 19 April 1971 [25 Feb 1970] 22637/71 Heading C7B A contact assembly 28, for limiting transfercurrent density in a rotary-type plating apparatus 12 for electro-plating a metal e.g. Zn on to one side 10a of a sheet 10 e.g. of cold-rolled carbon steel under tension moving through a tank 18 containing electrolyte 20, has a contact member 30 on the periphery of a rotatable member, e.g. the carbon steel body 32 of a drum 22 mounted on a shaft 24, and sealing bands 36 adjacent the contact member on the rotatable member for receiving the sheet edges 10 b, c and sealing the other side 10d of the sheet from electrolyte, having sealing edges 38 engaging with contact edges 34 to form assembly seals 42. The contact member has high resistance reduced portions 44 and a lower resistance full portion 46 with intermediate portions 48 therebetween, and may be a stainless Nb steel or Ni ring. Adhesive may be provided between the contact and sealing edges; the assembly seal 42 may be serrated, corrugated, or concave or convex arcuate. The plating apparatus also includes entry and exit rolls 14, 16 for guiding the sheet 10, and an arcuate anode 26 e.g. of Pb alloy containing À5% Ag. |
