In painting jobs and the like as well as preparatory surface treatment in which large surface areas are to be treated, there is a requirement for labour-saving mechanical working-in, whilst liquid is simultaneously supplied to the treatment surface. A solution to this requirement is provided by a hand-held applicator machine 4 containing two motor-driven brush rollers rotatable counter to the rotational directions of the one and the other and disposed in a housing which is open from the one side. Once the splash-protection hood 5 on the one long side of the machine has been removed, the brush rollers are exchangeable. The brush rollers are in this case pulled right out from their mutually parallel axles and can be replaced by rollers for other jobs; wire brush, abrasive material, polishing material, etc. The rotation speed of the brush rollers is varied by continuous adjustment and locked using the controls 1 on the stirrup-shaped handle. The supply of paint can be regulated quite independently of the rotation speed 2 of the brush rollers.
