The method for the automatic acquisition of impacts on a target, caused by projectiles coming from a weapon, is characterised in that it consists in: &cirf& fitting onto the weapon (1) an apparatus (3) capable of delivering a light beam (4) representing the line of sight of the weapon, &cirf& positioning the weapon (1) in such a way as to project the light beam (4) onto the target (6), &cirf& determining the position of the impact of the light beam on the target, &cirf& firing a projectile with the weapon maintained in its position, &cirf& determining the position of the impact of the projectile on the target, &cirf& and comparing the positions of the impacts of the light beam and of the projectile in order to determine the sighting characteristics of the weapon, its accuracy, its precision and its reliability. <IMAGE>
