A bobbin holder on a high speed braiding machine has a brake for the bobbin connected to an angular detector bar. This is also arranged to work in conjunction with a cam on a spring tensioned thread tensioning device. The bobbin is pref. wound with wire or monofilament (7) and is one of a set of several bobbins, each held in similar holders around the machine to produce a tubular flexible braid. Two arms (3) with bearings, hold the bobbin. A back plate (2) forms a bracket over the arms and holds the feed pulleys (11,12) for the wire or monofilament (8). A plate (10) swivels on a centre (25) holding the two tension arrangement pulleys (11). The plate is tensioned by a spring (21) held at points (20,22) with threaded adjustable provision (23,24). At the other end of the plate (10) is a cam (13) with cam roller (14) attached to the arm (15), which connects to the brake system (5). ADVANTAGE - The tension can be finely adjusted during the process automatically, which results in improved quality of flexible tubing.
