The system drives a pair of windng plates (1,2) respectively cooperating with the two tape reels, each winding plate (1,2) acted on by a brake (9) operated by a threading motor. The motor respectively drives a pair of cogs (15,16) directly and via a slip coupling (17) controlling a brake slider (10) with two attached racks (11,12). The brake slider (10) controls two coupled brake levers (3,4). The levers are pivoted upon linear movement of the brake slider (10) to bring an attached brake pad (9) into engagement with the respective winding plate (1,2).
