Appts. for producing an oriented fibre aggregate includes a vessel having at least one pair of horizontally spaced vertical positive and negative electrodes between which a high voltage is applied. A drive mechanism advances a continuous filter sheet horizontally through the tank beneath the electrodes. A dispersion of fibres in dielectric fluid is supplied to a distributor at the top of the vessel from where it passes downwardly between the electrodes so that the fibres are aligned between them. The fibres are collected on the filter while still oriented and the fluid is withdrawn from below the filter. Pref. the electrodes are in plate form. Downstream of the vessel a continuous cover sheet may be applied over the aggregated fibres.
