1289241 Photoconductive element GAF CORP 13 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 1716/71 Heading H1K A photoconductive element comprises a photoconductive layer including a binder having dispersed therein zinc oxide and a sensitizing dye of formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are halogen, R<SP>11</SP> is Cl, Br or I and n and in are 1 or 2. The embodiments use octabromo(tetrabromo-bromo phenol blue), hexabromo, tetrachloro-tetrabromo, and dichloro-tetra-iodo sulphonphthalein. The dye may be added dissolved or undissolved to a suspension of ZnO, polyvinyl acetate and triethylamine in toluene. Alternatively an alcoholic or toluene solution of the dye may be mixed with zinc oxide and the dyed zinc oxide added to a solution of the binder. The photoconductive layer may be supported on a sheet of Zn, Al, brass, plastics or paper optionally impregnated with KCl or vinyl benzyl trimethylamine chloride. Other binders are specified. |
