Two roof members with joint along length

Surface-textured roof members are joined longitudinally, where each consists of a foam core with two metal skins. Joint is within an upstanding section and has a seal. Beneath, the lower skin on the one member is indented just in front of the joint, where a corresp. lip on the other member fits in. Main part of the thickness of the member here is its foam core. At the joint the two top skins are screwed together where a metal plate overlaps the joint and has inclined edges along its length; one such edge covers a part of the metal skin of one member which is pointing upwards and the other edge similarly covers a part of the skin of the other member. Metal plate is fitted with a bolt which passes vertically through the one member and fixes it to the support structure. Each upward pointing part of a top skin of one member forms a trough; another upward projecting part of the metal skin forms a groove and a part of a cover fits into this. At least 60% of the thickness of the joint is filled with an elastic foam seal where the bottom end fits on to a tongue in the lower skin on one side of the joint. Edge of this tongue projects out into a recess in the other roof member to a deg. depending upon that of compression of the elastic seal. Compensating gap is left between the parts of the members gripped by the cover plate. Elastic seal concerned is pref. e.g. an impregnated soft polyurethane foam.
