There is proposed a sintered body comprising sintered activated carbon which may contain a carbonaceous binder material infusible under the sintering conditions and a reinforcing material. The sintered body may be used for making an absorbent having high adsorption properties and a good strength, which comprises a plurality of sintered sheets of said sintered body being arranged in layers to form a space between adjacent sheets.
