<p>Apparatus for the evaluation of the proportion of hydrogen-containing liquid in the strata traversed by a probe displaceable in a borehole on a cable and provided with a source of fast neutrons (I), a source of gamma-rays (II), a neutron detector (Ia) receiving neutrons retarded by hydrogen nuclei in the hydrogen-containing liquids in the strata between the source and the detector and a gamma-ray detector (IIa) receiving diffused gamma radiation from strata irradiated by the gamma ray source, the special features of the apparatus being: (a) the detectors (Ia) and (IIa) are combined to form a single detector designed to emit a first series of signals (A) in response to the slow neutron flux diffused by the strata and a second set of signals (B) representative of the quantity of hydrogen-containing liquid present in the strata and of the density of the latter, the signals (A) having distinctly different amplitudes to signals (B), (b) means are provided for transmitting the two series of signals (A) and (B) to the surface by the cable where provision is made for a device discriminating between (A) and (B) as a function of their amplitude, connected to a signal counter whereby the numbers of (A) and (B) signals arriving in a specific time are determined and recorded as a function of the position of the probe in the bore hole, on a recorder connected to the signal counter.</p> |
