An air bag type rider-protective device, which is free of trouble even when a minute quantity of substances in the form of fine particles are discharged outside from the gas generator on account of insufficient filtration resulting from reduction in size and weight of a filtering device in the gas generator and is in the structure of absorbing impact on the human body while emitting a part of gas generated by the gas generator incorporated into the device, characterized by being provided with at least one auxiliary bag made of foundation cloth (11) for receiving the gas discharged via vent holes (15), and disposed outside the bag foundation cloths (12), (13). The auxiliary air bag is desirably fixed so as to cover up the upper half of the air bag foundation cloths.
