<p>The needle (2) of the hypodermic gun (1) is injected into the flesh of an animal and the trigger (3) pressed to implant a miniature electromagnetic transponder. When a receiver is placed near the site of the implant, the transponder transmits codes which identify the animal and carry data about its history. The novel feature of the present gun is that it has a positioning mechanism to ensure that the implant takes place in the required place. The mechanism consists of a rod (4), parallel to the needle, and a pad (5) on its end. The pad is aligned for the partic. species and part of the anatomy in which the implant is to be placed.</p> |
