Adhesive - coated metallised films - for application to glass to reduce radiation,using alcohol-activated adhesives

Transparent films, consisting of a plastics film, a vapour-deposited metallic coating, a protective lacquer for the metal and an adhesive for sticking to glass, in which the adhesive layer consists of polymers which can be activated by aliphatic alcohols. The adhesive layer pref. consists of a copolymer of acrylic and methacrylic esters, which can be activated with a mixture of alcohol and water, but is insoluble in water alone. The protective lacquer pref. contains a corrosion preventative for the metal. The composite films are applied to glass, esp. window panes to reduce transmission of radiation, esp. heat. Use of alcohol-activated adhesives in place of usual water-activated types prevents water-absorption in use by the adhesive and resultant discolouration.
