The present invention relates to a cosmetic agent for the treatment of the hair and skin which contains macromolecular surface-active, quaternary N-substituted chitosan derivatives having the formula (1) HO ¢C6H11-x-y-z NO4 (R1)x (R2)y (R3)z!p H (1) wherein x is from 0.04 - 0.4: y is from 0.04 - 0.92; z is from 0.04 - 0.92; (x+y+z)?2; p is an integer from 100 - 100,000; R1 is acetyl; R2 is or; R3 is R4 is a C1 to C4-alkyl radical; X is Cl, Br, I or Ch3SO4; o is 1 - 5; n is 5 - 20. The present invention also relates to the chitosan derivatives having the formula (I). The chitosan derivatives are distinguished particularly by their surface-active properties, for example, their foam-forming and emulsifying properties, and by their hairsetting and hair-conditioning effect. |
