PURPOSE:To extend a brightness dynamic range by using a hue in an additive three primary colors process and the color picture element of a 4th hue obtained by adding the hue at the same ratio. CONSTITUTION:A composite video signal is supplied to the input terminal of a decoder 61. It is separated to three kinds of signals by a primary color separating device 62. Next, four kinds of display signals are generated by adding W to the signals by a computing element 63. Then, they are inputted in a display unit constituted of the light source 65 of a backlight, an optical shutter-matrix 66 and a mosaic color filter 67. The optical shutter corresponding to each picture element of the optical shutter-matrix 66 is opened and closed according to the display signal. The four kinds of display signals at this time are kept lower than the maximum emitted light quantity of each picture element, and saturation allowance to the maximum emitted light quantity of each picture element is extended for an inputted signal. |
