PURPOSE:To obtain the subject mixture useful as a raw material for pharmaceuticals, etc., in short steps by carrying out asymmetric esterification of a specific derivative with a biochemical catalyst in the presence of an acyl- donative compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective mixture of an (R)-or (S)-3-acyloxypyrrolidine derivative of formula II [R is H, (substituted) alkyl, alkenyl or aryl[ and an (RS)-3-hydroxypyrrolidine derivative of formula I[[X is (substituted) phenyl] can be produced by treating the derivative of formula I with a biochemical catalyst in the presence of an acyl-donative compound. The catalyst is preferably a microorganism of the genus Pseudomonas, etc., or an enzyme originated from the microorganism. |
