SELF-DIAGNOSTIC AND SELF-REPAIRING SYSTEM FOR IMAGE FORMING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To enable wide-range self-diagnosis and self-repair by deciding abnormality of the device according to state data, feature data, and fault diagnostic knowledge from sensor means and selecting an actuator to be put in operation for fault repair. CONSTITUTION:Pieces of information from sensors 1a - 1c are converted by the digital signal/symbol conversion part 11 of a system control circuit 10 into qualitative symbol information. A fault diagnostic part 12 and a fault simulation part 13 compares the symbol with the fault diagnostic knowledge in an object model storage part 14 to decide whether or not there is a fault and output a symbol fault state. A repair planning part 15 reasons a repair plan according to the fault symbol and fault diagnostic knowledge and selects an actuator among 6a - 6c to repair the device. This simple constitution enables the wide- range self-diagnosis and self-repair of a different kind of image forming device.
