PURPOSE:To inhibit the reduction of strength at high temp. by incorporating SiC whiskers into a specified SiC sintered body. CONSTITUTION:SiC powder of <=5mum particle size is mixed with carbon powder and 15-35vol.% SiC whiskers of 0.2-5mum diameter and the mixture is molded to form a molded body. This molded body is embedded in Si powder, heated in vacuum and continuously brought into contact with liq. or gaseous Si to obtain a composite SiC sintered body contg. SiC whiskers and having <=15% reduction of strength at 1,200 deg.C and >=600 MPa bending strength at ordinary temp. and 1,200 deg.C. The reduction of strength is calculated by (1-(bending strength at 1,200 deg.C)/(bending strength at ordinary temp.))X100(%). |
