PURPOSE:To prevent troubles such as aggregation and lump formation of ash and adhesion to inner surfaces of pipes and to stabilize a coal liquefying process in subjecting distillation residue prepared by distilling coal to ash removal treatment by irradiating the distillation residue with gamma-rays and obtaining ash concentration of a solution. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogenated material of coal such as brown coal is distilled and separated into a light oil, a middle oil, a heavy substance and distillation residue containing ash. Then the distillation residue is transferred to a dissolving tank 1, mixed with an ash removal solvent to form an ash-containing solution, which is sent to a settling tank 2 to make an ash concentrated slurry at the lower part of the settling tank 2 and a diluted solution of ash at the upper part. In the operation, the solution is irradiated with gamma-rays by a gamma-ray irradiation means 3 from the outside of the lower part of the settling tank, a close of gamma-rays permeating through the solution in the lower part of the settling tank and coming to the outside is measured to obtain the density of the solution and ash concentration is determined from the density to prevent troubles such as aggregation and lump formation of ash. |
