The arrangement provides more than three speeds and consists of a single epicyclic gear with double planet pinions mounted in an axially fixed cage, and two different sun wheels. The change of a gear ratio is effected by a rod mounted coaxially with the hub. The rod is actuated from one side of the hub axis only, and the actuating mechanism consists of a number of concentric, spring-loaded sleeves which ensure that the mechanism functions in the required sequence.
