The invention relates to an exhaust silencer of the type comprising a sound-insulating structure (1) surrounding an end portion of an exhaust pipe (2) and enclosed in a substantially cylindrical jacket (4). The silencer according to the invention is characterised in that it comprises a cylindrical sleeve (3) based on fibres constituting heat insulation, the said external jacket (4) being arranged concentrically with the said sleeve (3), forming an annular space (6) between them, the said sleeve (3) and the said jacket (4) being carried by two end plates (5) fixed to the said exhaust pipe (2), the said end plates (5) including holes (7) for placing the said annular space (6) in communication with the outside atmosphere. <IMAGE>
