Sterilisable surgical cloth with outer viscose layer - and permeable base layer, with thermoplastic synthetic adhesive between outer and barrier layers

A sterilisable surgical cloth has (a) a liq. absorbing outer layer, (b) a liq.-impermeable barrier layer of a thermoplastic synthetic film, bonded to the outer layer, and (c) a breathing, non skin irritating permeable base layer, of thermoplastic synthetic fibres (a). The outer layer is pref. viscose fleece or fabric, and (d) between the outer and barrier layers a layer of adhesive is used which is based on a thermoplastic synthetic with a softening temp. lower than the barrier layer. Alternatively, the adhesive is incorporated in the viscose fleece or fabric as fibre or binder. The otuer layer, barrier layer and base layer are bonded together thermally by brief heating of at least one of the layers to a temp. in the softening range of the synthetic. USE/ADVANTAGE - The cloth is a throw-away prod. with good softeness, draping qualities, absorption, barrier function, sterilisability, tear strength, and abrasion resistance. The surface is rough, and instruments placed on it do not slip off. The unsterilised cloth can be used in, e.g. pharmacy, hygiene, and the electronics and optical industries. (1/3)
