[Also in Division E1] A continuous or discontinuous single or double line is marked on the middle or side of a road surface by grinding grooves wherein and filling them with fluent marking material and glass beads. The apparatus, retractably mounted on a vehicle 1, comprises one or more laterally-adjustable grinding wheels 4 supported by an hydraulic or electromechanical mechanism 3; a cooling water conduit 13; a suction hood 15; a control feeler 5; a brush and blower 22; a spreader 8 receiving glass beads from a reservoir 21 and fluent marking material from a container 6; and burners 12 which heat the road and remove liquid and dust. The container 6 incorporates a mixing screw 11 and heaters 9, 10. Steering is assisted by an optical or television guide system 2. The apparatus is controlled by an operator walking alongside or sitting in a removable rear seat 19 and using a control box 20 on a flexible cable. A gantry 23 facilitates replacement of the grinding wheel from a store 24. |
