<p>In the manufacture of glassware a preliminary stage is making gobs of molten glass. The gobs are cut from a body of molten glass by shear blades (19, 20) mounted on a shear blade carriage (16, 17) in a gob shearing apparatus. The shear blades (19, 20) need to be set relative to each other to ensure efficient shearing of the gob. The shear blades (19, 20) are preset by a method of mounting carriage (16) on a base member (4) and adjusting shear blade (19) relative to a pin (8) and a datum plate. The datum plate is removed and carriage (17) is mounted on a base member (5). Shear blades (20) are then adjusted relative to shear blades (19) and a stop pin (9). When fully adjusted the carriages (16, 17) may be removed and fitted to the gob shearing apparatus. The shear blades (19, 20) require no substantial further adjustment.</p> |
