摘要 In a new device for sterilising liquids using radiation, the liquid flows through a cylindrical sterilising chamber whose cross-section alters between its inlet (6) and outlet zones (6a) by narrowing into a suitable number of parallel pipes (3) in the form of a tube-bundle (1). Each tube contains an annular space (16) through which the liquid flows between a central UV light source (5) and the inner wall of the tube. The liquid is therefore treated in a layer of constant thickness, and by increasing the number of tubes a large flow volume can be accommodated while reducing the thickness of this layer. Pref. flow into and out of the tubes (17,18) normally takes place in an axial direction, but may also be radial or tangential. Each tube contains one or more UV lamps arranged in parallel or in series. Lamps of very small dia. may be used, positioned centrally inside quartz-glass tubes. One or more of the tubes will be provided with a sensor for indicating the radiation intensity in the water. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in sterilising liquids, esp. turbid liquids such as waste water. The device is esp. suitable for treating waste water and/or recycled water in fish farms, or clear waters which require a high deg. of sterilising. Provides for the water to be treated in a uniform thin layer to ensure a high intensity of sterilisation, without significantly reducing the flow rate.
