1. A method for preventing fires of energy-supply installations and checking coal self-ignition in mine underground by covering coal with a protective coating to isolate it from air. The method is distinctive in that it proposes that abandoned workings and longwall gaps should be alternately sprayed with a liquid, characterised by high wetting and surface-activity properties, and covered with dry, dusty material, easily combinable with the sprayed liquid.2. A method based on 1, characterised by application of a wetting liquid in the form of an aqueous wetter solution, whose concentration is 0.3 to 0.5 %, consisting of 20-60 % by weight of di-2-ethylhexyl succinate sodium salt and 40-80 % by weight of water-dissolvable salts, most preferably calcium chloride. The dusty material is constituted by usual non stearinic calcium dust with admixture of 6-10 % of hydrated calcium.<IMAGE>
