Process for dyeing keratinous fibres, especially human keratinous fibres such as the hair, characterised in that there is applied on these fibres a composition containing, in a medium suitable for dyeing, at least one 4-hydroxyindole derivative of the formula: <IMAGE> in which R1 denotes hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl; R2 and R3, which may be identical or different, denote hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, carboxyl or alkoxycarbonyl; X denotes hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C18 alkoxy, halogen, acetylamino; at least one of the groups X, R1, R2 and R3 being other than hydrogen; as well as the salts of these compounds; - at least one oxidation dye precursor; - at least one oxidising agent; the pH of the composition applied on the fibres being below 7. |
