A method and apparatus for operation of a consequent at the time of controlling various equipment by applying fuzzy theory. The operation method of the invention is characterized in that a membership function of a fuzzy set in the consequent is expressed by a triangle, the moment of rotation is calculated based on the product of a value on the abscissa of the center of gravity of the triangle and the length of the bottom side, the product of a validity degree obtained by calculating the antecedent and the moment of rotation is calculated and is added, the product of the validity degree and the length of the bottom side is calculated and is added, and the value to which is added the product of the validity degree and the moment of rotation is divided by the value to which is added the product of the validity degree and the length of the bottom side, and the thus obtained value is used as an operation amount. The operation apparatus of the invention preferably comprises a membership function storage unit for the consequent to store the data of length of bottom side of triangle and the data of position of the center of gravity that create a membership function of the consequent, a validity degree storage unit, a numerator operation unit which calculates and adds the product of the validity degree and the moment of rotation, a denominator operation unit which calculates and adds the product of the validity degree and the length of bottom side of a triangle, a division unit which divides the value calculated by the numerator operation unit by the value calculated by the denominator operation unit, and an output unit which outputs the value calculated by the division unit as an operation amount.
