A fastening for slidable panes of a window comprises a plastics bolt 59 which has a head 63 at one end of a body portion 60 connected by a neck 65 to the body portion and at the other end an abutment member 61 with resilient limbs which engage in an opening 70 in the body portion to retain the abutment member and body portion together. The body portion is slidable in a channel 62 of a style on one edge of a pane, and the abutment member projects through a slot in a side wall of the channel 62 into a channel formation 57 and outwardly of an enlargement of a slot 73 therein. The bolt is slidable in the channel 62 from a position in which the abutment member is at the bottom of the enlargement and engages in a recess in a flange projecting from a second pane, when the panes are in a predetermined position, to retain the panes in position, to a position where the bolt disengages the recess and the panes are released. The head 63 has spring pressed balls 68 in bores 66 and which engage apertures 69 in the style to maintain the bolt in retaining or releasing position. |
