PURPOSE:To modify an alkylnaphthalene mixture by subjecting the title mixture to a conversion reaction in the presence of a solid acid catalyst and hydrogen, bringing a vapor phase prepared after removal of the title modified mixture into contact with a hydrogenating catalyst or a catalyst having hydrogenating and decomposing ability to remove olefins of by-products and circulating the vapor phase. CONSTITUTION:The title mixture containing >=50% dialkylnaphthalene obtained from coal tar or petroleum-based heavy oil is subjected to a conversion reaction in the presence of a solid acid catalyst (e.g. H-mordenite type zeolite) and hydrogen at 300-500 deg.C under normal pressure to 30KG and the reaction product is cooled to remove the title modified mixture out of the system. A vapor phase after the reaction is brought into contact with a hydrogenating catalyst and/or a catalyst (e.g. Ni, Ru or Pt supported on alumina) having hydrogenating and decomposing ability at 250-400 deg.C under normal pressure to 100KG, and olefins contained in the vapor phase are removed and the vapor phase is circulated and used. The olefins will not be accumulated in the reaction system. |
