PURPOSE:To increase the mechanical strenght of an alkaline battery and prevent any defective open-circuit voltage of the battery by using a separator prepared by laminating a grafted polyethylene fiber, and a non-woven cloth made of a synthetic fiber. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 2 made of silver oxide is packed into a metal case 1 also serving as a positive terminal. A separator 3, an electrolyte holding material 4, and a gel-like negative agent 5 made of zinc powder are placed over the positive mixture 2, in that order. After that, a metal sealing plate 7 also serving as a negative terminal is placed on the negative agent 5, with an insulating gasket 6 interposed between the case 1 and the plate 7, to seal the battery, thus an alkaline battery being constituted. The separator 3 is formed by laminating a polyethylene film prepared by subjecting acrylic acid or methacrylic acid to graft-polymerization, and a synthetic fiber such as non-woven cloth principally containing nylon, polypropylene, vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride. It is preferred that the non-woven cloth is made to touch the positive mixture 2. |
