PURPOSE:To enhance the preservation characteristics of an alkaline battery by using a grafted polyethylene film as a separtor, and making the graft rates of the center and the surface of the film different. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 2 made of silver oxide used as an active material is packed into a metal case 1 also serving as a positive terminal. A separator 3, an electrolyte holding material 4, and a gel-like negative agent 5 made of an amalgamated zinc powder are placed over the positive mixture 5, in that order. An opening 7 of the case 1 is sealed by using a metal sealing plate 6, with an insulating gasket 8 interposed between the case 1 and the plate 6, and the whole constitutes a battery. The separator 3 is made of a polyethylene film prepared by subjecting acrylic acid or methacrylic acid to graft-polymerization. The graft rates of the central part and the surface area of the separator 3 are made different. It is preferred that the graft rate of the central part is adjusted to 20-40%, and that of the surface area to 40-60%. |
