PURPOSE:To produce 2,6-dialkylnaphthalene by increasing the concentration of 2,6-compound by conversion reactions of a dialkylnaphthalene isomer mixture having a reduced 2,6-compound concentration, distilling the converted mixture, then separating 2,6-compound from the resultant dialkylnaphthalene fraction and recycling the residual isomer mixture. CONSTITUTION:A dialkylnaphthalene isomer mixture having a reduced 2,6- compound concentration is subjected to conversion reactions such as isomerization, alkylation and transalkylation in the presence of a solid acid catalyst or a Lewis acid catalyst at 20-500 deg.C and at ordinary pressure-50atm to increase the concentration of 2,6-compound, and the resultant reaction mixture is distilled to obtain a dialkylnaphthalene fraction. In carrying out distillation, all or a part of the raw oil is supplied to distillation process so as to remove impurities therein, especially indenes, indanes, etc., together with by-products. From the dialkyl compound fraction, 2,6-compound is separated using column chromatography, etc., and the residual mixture having a reduced 2,6-compound concentration is recycled. |
