SINTERED PRODUCT OF CARBON FIBER-COMPOUNDED SILICON CARBIDE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To provide a self-lubricating silicon carbide sintered product having excellent sliding characteristics by adding specific amounts of a sintering auxiliary and carbon fibers to silicon carbide. CONSTITUTION:The carbon fiber-compounded silicon carbide sintered product is characterized by adding 1.0-3.0 pts.wt. of a sintering auxiliary and 0.5-1.8 pts.wt. of carbon fibers to 100 pts.wt. of silicon carbide. The sintered product is prepared preferably by the following method. 100 pts.wt. of silicon carbide fine powder is homogeneously mixed with 0.5-1.8 pts.wt. of carbon fibers having an aspect ratio of 5-20 and further with a sintering auxiliary and a molding binder, and the mixture is molded and sintered.
