The invention relates to a shock absorbing system which automatically compensates for load. It consists of a cylinder (11) having an intake orifice (15) and outlet orifices (S1, S2, S3). Inside the cylinder, a piston (12) with a double skirt (J1, J2) is held on the intake side of the cylinder (15) by a spring (13). The displacement of the piston (12) is regulated by a damper (14). When the oil coming from the primary circuit exerts a pressure in the skirt (J1) via the intake (15), the piston, with a slow movement owing to the effect of the damper (14) contracts the spring (13). The port (16) which is on the skirt (J1) becomes placed facing an outlet corresponding to the pressure coming from the primary circuit. The outlets (S1, S2, S3) are connected to hydropneumatic accumulators, the nominal pressure of which is higher or lower depending on the outlets. The device according to the invention is intended for agricultural and industrial trailers and chassis. <IMAGE>
