The surface coating absorbing electromagnetic waves in the field of microwaves consists of a base conferring its mechanical properties on the coating and of a load absorbing the microwaves. The load consists of a mixture of hollow conducting bodies and of hollow insulating bodies, the average dimension of the hollow conducting bodies lying between a hundredth and a fiftieth of the wavelength absorbed and their wall having a thickness less than the skin thickness at the frequency of the waves in question.
