1276000 Atomising abrasive slurries NIRO ATOMIZER AS 27 Oct 1969 [5 Nov 1968] 52617/69 Heading B2F A bowl shaped wheel for use in apparatus for atomizing and spray-drying an abrasive slurry, e.g. of ceramic clay, wherein the slurry, supplied to the wheel rotating at high speed, is atomized through apertures in the wall thereof into the drying space, comprises a hub 1 and an outer wall 3, the slurry being supplied to the annular space 2 therebetween. The wall 3 has cylindrical apertures therein and in each aperture is relatively loosely located a bushing 8 of steel or plastics material, the bushing having an external shoulder 9 which engages an internal shoulder 10 of the aperture. In the conical bore of the bushing is disposed an externally conical nozzle 7 of wear resistant material such as tungsten or silicon carbide. When the bushing is of plastics material it may be hot-moulded around the nozzle and interengaging shapes other than conical may be used. The loose fit of the bushing prevents deformation of aperture circularity which occurs at high rotational speed being transmitted to the nozzle. The inner ends of the bushing and nozzle project beyond the inner surface of the wall 3, a protective build-up of solid material around the bushing occurring in operation.
