The pipe (2) is assembled from relatively movable C-sections (3) whose openings are closed by a covering element (5) which has a slot (4) in each side for the ends (3a, 3b) of the sections (3). In the compressed condition its length is fixed by tension wires (8, 9) threaded through two guides (5a, 5b) in the covering element (5) between threaded spindle passing through the end flanges (6) and secured by adjustable nuts (11). The wires (8, 9) are equidistant from the plane (13) of symmetry of the sections (3). ADVANTAGE - Extended position of pipe can be adjusted easily and exactly irrespective of operational circumstances.
