Device, esp. for thick glass panes, comprises an impact device which delivers a single blow to the pane on the face opposite the cut. Cut opening device has a tool housing (2) with a bore (4) running in the impact direction, a punch (3) displaceable in the tool housing (2), a compression spring (22) which biases the punch (3) relative to the tool housing (2) in the impact direction, and a corking device (9) which displaces the punch (3) by a predetermined distance against the compression spring bias and then releases the punch. ADVANTAGE - Device allows breaking of a scored thick glass pane along predetermined lines.
