New use of furoic and thiophenic acid derivs. - as anti-seborrhoeic agents in prodn. of prepn(s) for treatment of acne, dandruff, etc.

Use of furoic- or thenoic acid derivs. of formula (I) as antiseborrhoeic agents for the prepn. of topical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic prepns. with sebosuppressive activity, e.g. for treatment of acne, dandruff or psoriasis, is new. In (I) R1 = (a) alkyl (opt. branched, opt. mono- or poly-unsatd. and opt. susbtd. by an aryl, cycloalkyl or alkylaryl gp.); (b) 5-20C cycloaliphatic gp. (opt. mono- or polyunsatd. and opt. substd. by a cycloalkyl, aryl or opt. branched, opt. mono- or polyunsatd. alkyl gp.); R2 = H or 1-4C alkyl; n = 0-4; X = O or S. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are capable of normalising excessive secretions from sebaceous glands in the skin and have high skin and mucous membrane tolerability. Topical compsns. contain 0.0005-1.0 wt.% of (I) in a carrier.
