A pool includes interlocking, foam block walls having reinforcement bars disposed in the interspaces of the foam blocks. The interspaces of the foam block walls are filled with concrete. the pool further includes a material covering the interfaces between the foam blocks in the walls and a continuous, smooth surface lining the entire inboard side of the concrete filled, foam block walls. In one embodiment, this continuous smooth surface lining is a vinyl liner. The pool also includes a coping structure affixed to the top of the concrete filled, block walls near the water line of the pool. The coping structure includes a coping support and a shallow, vertically oriented, C-shaped coping tile affixed to the coping support with either a silicon or a thin set cement. The coping support includes a channel lock for a top edge bead of the vinyl liner, a base platform extending outboard from the channel lock, and a coping back support which supports the lower edge of the C-shaped tile and forms a channel between the back support has cut-outs therein such that the silicon or thin set cement, when poured into the channel, also flows away from the tile towards an aft region thereby linking the fore and aft regions next to the C-shaped tile and away from the C-shaped tile on the other side of the coping back support. The method of building the pool includes providing a plurality of foam blocks and reinforcing bars. constructing the foam block wall with the reinforcing bars disposed n the interior of the wall, pouring cement in the vertical passages of the foam block wall, attaching coping to the top of the cement filled, foam block wall and back filling the cement filled foam block wall of the pool.
