摘要 Appts. for the disposal of air exhaled by patients connected to anaesthetic machines, which is exhausted to a central point, includes plant for sepg. the N2O fraction. - The air is passed through a pipe with a controllable closing mechanism and bubbled in limited amts. through a finely porous layer into closed vessel no.1, partly filled with water kept at 0 deg.C, where it is absorbed physically in amts. of 1.3052 vol. pts. N2O/vol. pt. water at 0 deg.C; or in water kept at higher temps. suitable for the required deg. of absorption e.g. 25 deg.C, at which the physical absorption is 0.5962 vol. pts. N2O/vol. pt. water. The air freed from N2O is collected in the space above the water level and can be discharged to the outside atmos. through an outlet with controllable closure mechanism. When the water is satd. with N2O, the contaminated air supply is switched to a similar vessel no.2. The water from vessel no.1 is transferred to vessel no.3, where it is heated, so that N2O is expelled and collects above the water level. The N2O is then transferred to (a) appts. where it decomposed into the elements by heating to min. 600 deg.C; or (b) appts. for the recovery of N2O. After emptying, each vessel is filled with water at the required temp. A soln. for chemical reaction with N2O can be used instead of water.
