Liquids, such as milk, are packed in containers made of cardboard coated with a thermoplastics. The cartons are so shaped that a spout can be unfolded from the upper part of the carton in order to pour out the contents. The seams in the body of the carton are sealed with a strong adhesive whilst the seams of the spout are sealed with a weaker adhesive to allow the spout to be unfolded without tearing the carton body. This weaker adhesive is applied only to embossed surfaces (6) which are arranged in a pattern in a field (5) which is depressed below the embossed surfaces (6).
